SEC Tip-Off

The 2026 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament tipped off Wednesday morning inside the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, and the Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball wasted no time making a statement.

Kentucky delivered one of the most dominant performances of the opening round, cruising past the Arkansas Razorbacks women’s basketball 94–64 in front of a growing Greenville crowd eager to see SEC tournament basketball return to the Upstate.

From the opening tip, Kentucky set the tone with aggressive defense and a fast-paced offensive attack. The Wildcats exploded for 29 points in the first quarter, pushing the tempo and forcing Arkansas into difficult possessions early. The Razorbacks struggled to find rhythm offensively as Kentucky controlled the pace and dictated the flow of the game.

Arkansas attempted to regroup in the second quarter behind the scoring of Taliah Scott, but Kentucky’s depth quickly became the difference. The Wildcats continued to push the ball in transition while crashing the glass, creating second-chance opportunities that kept the Razorbacks on their heels.

The game was effectively decided in the third quarter. Kentucky delivered the knockout punch with a 28–10 run, stretching the lead well beyond twenty points and removing any doubt about the outcome. The Wildcats dominated the boards throughout the afternoon, finishing with a commanding 51–24 rebounding advantage, which allowed them to control the tempo and maintain constant pressure.

Arkansas was led by Taleyah Jones, who poured in 21 points, but the Razorbacks could never fully recover from Kentucky’s early surge.

With the win, Kentucky advances further into the SEC Tournament bracket as Greenville continues to host one of the premier events in women’s college basketball. For the Wildcats, the opening round performance served as a strong reminder of what makes March basketball so dangerous—depth, defense, and momentum.

As tournament play continues throughout the week in Greenville, Kentucky has already shown they are a team capable of making noise if they keep this level of intensity rolling.
