Ohio State vs Oregon Post Game Quotes

Media Release

Ryan Day, Ohio State head coach

“First off, I want to thank the crowd and everybody coming out today and being really loud the in the fourth quarter. We weren’t able to pull out the victory for everybody who came today. This was great crowd. I felt like it was a game that we were never in control of. It felt like they ran the ball, and we didn’t do a very good job of running the football, and we weren’t able to convert on fourth downs. And because of that, we’re always kind of playing catch up. We must learn from this. You have to grow from this and we still have a lot of football left, and figure out where the execution issues were, and get them fixed.”

“We have to get things fixed. You know that’s just kind of how things go. I thought at the end they got missed opportunities on offense. The offense is going to do their part of this thing as well. And, again, I don’t think we established the run, and I wanted the defense to give the offense the ball back. You know we didn’t do anything with the lead to get opportunities to score points.”

“We didn’t convert on those fourth downs. Sometimes when those go four or five, as opposed to two and three, it makes all the difference in the world, especially in that plus territory. It did today. They kind of threw us off and then it was fourth-and-two and felt like wanting to go for it with zero blitz. We should have run the ball a little bit better, probably would have run it there. But it just didn’t feel great at that moment in that spot. So that’s something we got to go back on as an offensive staff and get it fixed and get addressed. Because we want balance, and we don’t have balance. We had 484 yards passing and 128 yards rushing, but that’s not balanced.”

CJ Stroud, Ohio State quarterback

“It’s on me as the starting quarterback to make sure the team bounces back from this loss. The team, including myself, needs to be better in practice.”

Mario Cristobal, Oregon head coach

“It’s hard to express in words the magnitude of coming out here, down a couple guys due to injury, and just playing really gritty, gutsy football and executing at a high level. There was a tremendous job of preparation and turning that game into reality by our players and coaching staff.”

“This is an unbelievable venue, a historic place; to even get an opportunity to play at a place like this, you’re grateful. You’re thankful to go out there and play the way that we did.”

“That was a tough game and that game just kept going back and forth in that second half. So, a tremendous amount of credit to the players and the coaches for accomplishing our 1-0 goal for the weekend.”

“[This was] a big game for Oregon, a big game for the Pac-12. To come out at a place where I don’t think they’ve lost many games here at home in the regular season in a long, long time, and credit to them, that’s a great football team. I can’t say enough great things about them.”
