STONA WINS OLYMPIC GOLD IN THE MEN’S DISCUS

PARIS, France – With an Olympic record-breaking throw of 70.0m, 2022 Clemson Graduate Rojé Stona earns the gold medal in the Men’s Discus Finals in Paris for Team Jamaica.

This marks Stona first Olympic medal of his career and is the first gold medal for Jamaica at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Stona is the fourth Clemson Track and Field athlete to win an individual gold medal and is the first male track and field athlete to win gold since Shawn Crawford in 2004 (200 Meters). Stona is the 25th Clemson athlete to earn a medal at the Olympics.

While at Clemson, Stona was named the ACC Champion in the discus (2019) and was the National Runner-Up in the discus in 2022 at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Stona was a First Team All-American and a two-time Second Team All-American while competing for the Tigers under current throws coach Shawn Cobey’s leadership.

Stona continues to hold the school record in the discus with a throw of 65.11m, that he set in 2022.
