Panthers get their… QB?

Another offseason, another QB trade for the Carolina Panthers. This trade, involves the 1st overall pick in the 2018 draft, Baker Mayfield. Carolina’s roster now contains the 1st and 3rd overall draft picks from the same draft class, which to the blind eye sounds fantastic. The only problem is, they play the same position.

No doubt the Panthers made this trade because they don’t have faith in Sam Darnold and you have to believe this is now Baker’s team. The question is which Baker Mayfield are the Panthers getting? If it’s the 2020 Baker that threw for 3,563 and 28 touchdowns, then this is a potential playoff team.

Only time will tell, but the off-season for Carolina now has a hint of optimism heading into the season. The trade gave up a late future draft pick and the Panthers only owe Mayfield approximately 5 million dollars. At this price, GM Fitterer pulled off a great deal that could ultimately land the Panthers their QB of the future.
