On Thursday, August 19, Clemson had their final scrimmage as they prepare to face off against Georgia on September 4 at 7:30 PM est. Coach Dabo Swinney was asked his thoughts on the last scrimmage, and he stated, “the best part about today is we came through pretty healthy,” we all know that injuries are a big part of football that unfortunately happens, so for the Tigers to play two physical games as if they were pre-season games and come out healthy is a good sign. As we all know, Clemson is known for extended explosive plays. When asked was there any explosiveness from the offense during this scrimmage, Swinney said, “there were several explosive plays,” “I think DJ had his best day; he’s steadily getting better; he had a game-like mentality today.”

After speaking with Coach Brent Venables, he spoke on his defense and how they have impressed him during the camp and scrimmage. “These guys have made an improvement and had a really good fall camp and had a great deal of consistency.” When asked about how Justyn Ross will be against defenses, he said, “he has great ball skill, linear speed, toughness, and tremendous resiliency,” with that being said, Venables ended off saying, “he will cause a lot of issues for you, expect a huge season.” After asking about his overall thoughts on his corners, Venables said that he is “super pleased” with his group of guys, “they are very consistent, great coverage.”

As the Tigers wrap up everything and get ready for another school year and another season of football, it seems like this will be another excellent year for Tigers’ fans across the country based on the feedback from the coaches on how the players have progressed this past offseason.
